'If It's F1, It's Vital'
Sky Sports secure rights to GP2 and GP3
The new Sky Sports Formula One channel which launches next month will also be showing feeder series GP2 and GP3 live next season.
The GP2 series has previously be shown on ITV, Setanta and most recently Eurosport, but from next season the 12-round season which acts as a feeder series to Formula One will be shown live on Sky Sports.
The season begins in Malaysia over the weekend of the 23-25 March and coverage will include the feature race and a shorter sprint race.
'We are delighted to be showing GP2 and GP3 live on Sky Sports F1 HD. There are six former GP2 champions in Formula 1 this season, including Lewis Hamilton and last year's winner Romain Grosjean.
'The series promises nail-biting and fascinating racing and we'll track gifted drivers through the ranks as they aim for Formula 1.' Sky Executive Producer Martin Turner told Sky Sports.
Sky Sports have confirmed that the qualifying and the races will be advert free and the Sky Sports F1HD channel will be available to their Sky Sports 1 and 2 customers as well as their Sky HD subscribers.
Sky Sports F1 will also be available in standard definition to Virgin Media customers who subscribe to the full Sky Sports package.
Due to financial reasons it looks unlikely that a Sky Sports F1 will be available on either BT Vision or Top Up TV.
Both do currently carry Sky Sports 1 and 2, but would only be able to offer Sky Sports F1 if they purchased an additional Freeview channel which is unlikely to prove cost affective.
