'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Newey holds paternal instinct for Red Bull

Red Bull's chief technical officer Adrian Newey is widely thought of as the best in business.

The 52-year-old Englishman joined Red Bull Racing from McLaren in 2006, having previously won five Formula One World Constructors Championships with Williams and one with McLaren.

He joined Red Bull at the teams infancy stage in 2005, at the end of their first season in Formula One after they had bought the team from Jaguar.

The first car he had any real influence over was the 2007 Red Bull, which went on to finish fifth in the constructors standings, after a bit of a stutter in 2008 mainly down to the cars reliability, Red Bull continued their charge to the top of Formula One in 2009 eventually going on to take second spot in the constructors championship.

But 2010 and 2011 were the real break through years for Red Bull, with Vettel taking the drivers title and Red Bull securing back-to-back constructors crowns.

Red Bull are now seen as the team to beat on the Formula One grid, overtaking the F1 stalwarts of Ferrari and McLaren, but while the media might think that Newey would consider moving on to a new challenge, the man himself has pretty much counted himself out of a move away from the team.

'I can't see myself going anywhere else, To leave for another team would be a little bit like walking out on my children.' Newey told the BBC following the launch of the latest Newey designed Red Bull.

'I've been involved in the team from very early on,' he said, 'feel very centrally involved in it, and am proud we've managed to get from the ashes of Jaguar to where we are today.

'That in itself brings a huge amount of satisfaction and there's a slightly paternal feeling of wanting that to carry on.'

'So long as I am enjoying it and people want me to work here, I'll carry on doing so.'

And a lovely bloke aswell. Met him last year at the Monaco GP. Just put his briefcase down, started giving autographs and chatted to everyone. Redbull are lucky to have him for so many reasons
