Schumacher ready for the new season

Another day has passed in the wait for the new 2012 Formula One season.

The time for talking is pretty much over, we've all seen the performances of the cars during winter testing and all agreed that we've learned very little.

Some might say at this stage of the year it's guess work and former seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher would appear to agree.

'Finally, we can stop trying to read the tea leaves from testing and actually go racing,' Schumacher told Sky Sports.

The new Mercedes has looked strong in testing, despite playing catch-up after missing the first winter testing session in Jerez.

Many believed that was because the Mercedes team was planning something radical, something they wanted to keep under-wraps for as long as possible, but it eventually appeared to be that they just wanted the extra time to build a solid, dependable car, something that gave them a base to work with over the coming season.

It appears to have moved them forward, with the likes of Lotus, while keeping them ahead of mid-pack teams Force India and Williams.

Depending on just how bad Ferrari's 2012 car is, they may well have closed the gap towards them as well, but we will not really know until the cars role out of the pitlane in Australia this weekend.

Schumacher continued: 'Melbourne is a perfect location, and the ideal place to start the season. The city loves Formula One, the fans create a great atmosphere and obviously, as drivers, we feel that too.

'And because we've already got a buzz about what's to come, it just makes you want to get out there and start driving.

'During winter testing, we completed lots of miles and built up a really complete set of data, which should put us in a good position for the first race and to develop the car even further in the right direction. We're ready for the 2012 season to begin.'
