Hamilton targets multiple titles

2011 was a season to forget for Lewis Hamilton.

The 2008 Formula One World Champion, was beaten by his team-mate for the first time since he entered the sport, something that double F1 world champion Fernando Alonso was unable to do during Hamilton's rookie season, something that veteran driver Heikki Kovalainen was unable to do and something that current team-mate Jenson Button, whilst defending his 2009 crown was unable to do.

The new Pirelli tyres may well have suited Jenson Button smooth racing style, which is in complete contrast to Lewis Hamilton's aggressive style, but the biggest factor behind that event happening last season was the mistakes he made on the track.

All the talk in the media and the paddock may have pointed the blame at his personal life or his management situation, but his form behind the wheel and more often than not his judgement behind the wheel, was what had the biggest consequence on his disappointing season.

Out of 19 races held in 2011, Hamilton received 9 penalties, 9 penalties that resulted in various drive through penalties, or after race time penalties that resulted in him losing points and losing focus.

Many believe losing to Jenson Button will be what hurt the 27-year-old the most, but according to the man himself that simply isn't the case.

Under performing is what really hurt Hamilton.

'Losing to Jenson didn't really bother me, If it had been a case where we had been fiercely competitive throughout the year it would have been quite tough to deal with.

'But knowing it was a year where I threw away points, made very silly mistakes - sometimes a little unfortunate, but it was just a shocking year - I wasn't really too devastated by it.
Hamilton told the BBC.

'But the journey I've had is the one that has been mapped out for me, and I would say the learning curve has been a steep one.

'I'm only 27 so if I'm to race as long as Michael [Schumacher] is racing, then I've still quite some time on my side.

'Given that, I definitely feel as if I can win more titles. My commitment to that has never really changed.'
