Jordan handed honorary OBE

Eddie Jordan, the former owner of Formula One team Jordan [now Force India] and BBC Television pundit has been awarded an honorary OBE.

The honorary Order of the British Empire was given to the 63-year-old Irishman in recognition of his services to charity and motor racing.

What a wonderful moment in my life, I am hugely surprised and greatly overjoyed to receive this magnificent honour, however it would not have been possible without the help of my family, the Jordan Grand Prix F1 team, CLIC Sargent and in more recent times the BBC F1 team.” Jordan told formula1.com.

During Jordan's time in Motorsport, former Formula One World Champions Ayrton Senna and Damon Hill both made their debuts in Formula 3 for Jordan, while seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher made his debut in Formula One in the legendary 7-Up sponsored Jordan.

Jordan Grand Prix went on to start 250 Grand Prix, claiming four victories and two pole positions before the team became Midland MF1 Racing at the start of 2006.

Away from the track Jordan is patron of child cancer charity CLIC Sargent and The Amber Foundation for the young homeless.
