Kubica has final op

Fingers crossed, Robert Kubica has now had his final operation following his scary crash while taking part in the Ronde di Andora rally in Italy.

Kubica’s Skoda Fabia crashed during the opening stage of the rally with the Renault driver trapped in the car for over an hour before being airlifted to Pietra Ligure hospital by helicopter 12 days ago.

Since then Kubica has undergone a number of operations after suffering fractures to his right arm, leg and hand.

A crash barrier penetrated the car on impact and it is this that caused many of the Polish driver’s injuries including a partially severed right hand.

There had been fears that the hand may have had to be amputated; however the first operation by Doctor Igor Rossello, which was reportedly seven hours in duration, thankfully appears to have been successful.

Following the first operation Kubica was said to be in a serious but stable condition and Doctors decided to put him into an induced coma to help with his recovery.

Several days later after stabilising in intensive care, Kubica had a second operation to stabilise the fractures to his right shoulder and right foot and on Wednesday he had his third and hopefully final operation which was an eight hour procedure to stabilise and reconstruct the damaged fragments of the joint structure in his elbow.

At this stage there is no time frame on how long it will take the 26-year-old to recover and return to the sport.
