Webber denies pre-contract deal with Ferrari

Mark Webber has attempted to put a lid on rumours linking him with a move from Red Bull to Ferrari for the 2013 Formula One season.

With an out of sorts and seemingly out of favour Felipe Massa merely running down his contract with Ferrari, the media have been heavily involved in stirring the pot and keeping the rumour mill ticking.

Earlier this season Jenson Button was linked with a move from McLaren to Ferrari, before the 2009 Formula One World Champion then signed a long term deal to stay at McLaren.

Following his impressive performances for Sauber this season, Sergio Perez was then linked with joining Fernando Alonso at Ferrari, a rumour which will probably run and run as the Mexican is official part of Ferrari's young driver programme.

Robert Kubica has also previously been linked with the Ferrari seat, but his long road to recovery would appear to be delaying that prospect if of course there was anything behind the speculation to begin with.

With all the Formula One teams in one place for testing in Mugello, the paddock is a hive of activity, but a juicy rumour is always interesting and this week it appears to be talk of Webber moving to Ferrari.

The Australian is out of contract at the end of the season with Red Bull, but Webber has denied that he has already signed a pre-contract agreement to replace Massa in 2013.

'There's a whole season ahead of us before we need to think about the future. One day the talk is about Jenson, then it's Sergio, now it's me. I haven't signed anything,' Webber told ESPNF1 as quoted by Sky Sports.

'My focus is on this team. We have had a good start to the season, we're only four races down and the road is very, very long before we start talking about the future.'

An interesting extra snippet of information came from the same Sky Sports report, which also claimed, although not quoting Webber, as refusing to rule out the possibility of joining Ferrari in time for next season.

The 35-year-old is also said to have a great relationship with Fernando Alonso.
